Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement Propel Economic Growth in Detroit's Mt. Elliott District |
The Mt. Elliott Business & Community Association is at the forefront of revitalizing Detroit's Mt. Elliott Employment District, aiming to transform it into a vibrant industrial hub.
In collaboration with the Detroit Economic Growth Association, the association has secured a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.
This funding is dedicated to developing a comprehensive strategy that addresses infrastructure enhancements, land development, transportation improvements, and workforce amenities.
Mayor Mike Duggan emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that upgrading the Mt. Elliott Employment District will reinforce the region's role as a global manufacturing center and provide ample employment opportunities for Detroit residents.
Currently, the district is home to approximately 1,700 businesses employing nearly 15,000 individuals, making it Detroit's largest industrial corridor by employment.
The revitalization plan includes four key phases: data collection, analysis and presentation of findings, vision and strategy development, and finalization of the strategy.
This structured approach aims to create a replicable model for improving other employment districts within Detroit, potentially serving as a blueprint for regional and national peers.
Beyond economic development, the Mt. Elliott Business & Community Association is committed to fostering community engagement.
By involving local residents and businesses in the planning process, the association ensures that the revitalization efforts align with the community's needs and aspirations.
As the project progresses, the association plans to host public forums and workshops to gather input and keep the community informed.
These efforts underscore the association's dedication to creating a thriving, inclusive environment in the Mt. Elliott district.
